Someone on another list sought advice for the low cost travel options for
folks who wish to travel from North Carolina to Atlanta, Georgia and for
whom the stress of an automobile trip is taxing due to health reasons and
the trip needs to be made quickly. This provided the opportunity to share
these thoughts on this list as recorded below regarding the state of the
transportation options in the United States at this time.
This type of problem, not to mention the environmental impact of the
extensive use of automobiles in this country, speaks oceans about the need
for high speed rail transportation in this country. If we were talking
about a trip from the Washington D.C. region to New York. the answer would
be obvious. Unfortunately, the much of the rest of the United States does
not have the kind of rail service that Barach Obama illustrated prior to
his inauguration with his rail trip from Philadelphia to Washington D.C.
