. INDOOR GARDENING: A Try at Making Plants from Plants A Try at Making Plants from Plants Published: Thursday, June 18, 2009 at 9:08 a.m. Last Modified: Thursday, June 18, 2009 at 9:27 a.m. The Gadsden Times <http://www.gadsdentimes.com/article/20090618/NEWS/ 906189997?Title=A-try-at-making-plants-from-plants> A shorter URL for the above link: <http://tinyurl.com/noe5pr> After years of planning to try propagating plants, I finally potted (excuse the term) my first cuttings a couple weeks ago. I plan to nurture the clones of my mother plants (more suspicious terms, I know) until they take root and can be transplanted. For the record, I have four dozen rhododendron cuttings, about that many oakleaf hydrangea cuttings, and 10 cuttings from the trumpet vine that wraps around the screened porch. I also plan to take cuttings from the Japanese maple by the gate. Using methods that I got from the Internet (there is a trove of information out there on cloning plants, recreational and otherwise), I trimmed the cuttings, scarred their stems, dipped them into rooting hormone and placed them in cups filled with peat moss and perlite. The cups went into propagators I bought at K-Mart (also known as plastic boxes for storing stuff under the bed). I misted the cuttings every morning and kept them on the screened porch where they would get the light but not the heat of the sun. -------------------------------- The complete article may be read at the URL above.
